    1. Here s a puzzler for you See what you think There s been a lot of talk lately about nonfiction for kids and the importance of highlighting those books that adhere strictly to the truth That means no invented dialog in biographies and no invented facts If you conflate facts, you start getting into a murky, sticky area As Walter de la Mare is reported to have said and no, I m not blind to the irony of not knowing if he actually said it , only the rarest kind of best in anything can be good enough [...]

    3. This nonfiction book is filled with facts about different animals And not just any facts These are facts that are funny, amazing and memorable For instance, did you know a giraffe has no vocal chords That caterpillars throw their poop That crocodiles are cannibals That a flamingo can only swallow if its head is upside down Fifty animals are shown here with whimsical illustrations by the award winning Tolman.Goossens masterfully selects facts that mix the incredible with the bizarre with the humo [...]

    4. For anyone that loves animal books, this is the one for you There are so many neat and wonderful facts about all kinds of animals in here from A giraffe that has no vocal cords, to the fact that a panther is not a panther at all, but a leopard that happens to be black I love all those fun facts that you can share with your class or use as a writing journal article prompt The illustrations are silly, funny, and delightful the way Tolman connects her drawings to the text to give meaning and insigh [...]

    5. A collection of animals are presented with interesting facts alongside whimsical illustrations of the animals living up to the truths in their facts. This is a book I could see as a gift and one that would be a perfect addition to a personal library The array of animals included in the book is great in that many can be seen at zoos, but some are animals that were completely new to me and perhaps other readers as well The facts make for great conversation starters and the artwork just makes me smi [...]

    6. Netherlands artist Marije Tolman has illustrated another delightful book with words by Jesse Goossens The soft pencil and water color animal pictures each have a factual description telling the reader important information For example, the text tells us that a penguin can launch itself from the water onto the land by jumping up to six feet high The accompanying fantasy illustration has a picture of a group of penguins watching one penguin way up in the sky Children will be anxious to turn the pa [...]

    7. This book fun.But when I opened up the first page, I wasn t sure what I had gotten my self into A book with 90% of the page being a picturesd a tiny paragraph, I was worried But when I read the little paragraphs and the great pictures, I learn something new It is non fiction facts done in a fun way.Such as did you know Bison can jump 6 ft in the air or polar bears are left handed, or bats can t stand on their legs because they are too brittle And the one I thought was the wildesta Blue Whales we [...]

    8. Did you know that caterpillars can throw their poop Or that giraffes have no vocal cords Do you need or want a beautifully illustrated, highly informative, well curated collection of crazy animal facts that truly celebrate the wondrous diversity of the animal kingdom Buy this It ll please any audience parents, hyperactive toddlers, young kids, and even aunties who otherwise can t stand reading oversimplified, lazily rendered children s books during story time Love.

    9. The facts in this nonfiction picturebook are weird and fun to read THe illustrations are also fun, a little wacky and creates a different dialogue from the text however, the illustrations themselves leaves something to be desired I really feel as though the illustrator is not entirely comfortable drawing animals Much of the scenery and landscapes are gorgeously, rendered the irony and humor are apparent in the various scenes, but the animals are awkward and not well rendered.

    10. This title is difficult to categorize It is definitely nonfiction A fact book of sorts A book of art That too Quirky, odd, fantastic All of these things Some of nature s truths displayed a little graphically and gruesome than one might usually find in children s literature Cannibalistic crocodiles munching each other for lunch But also absolute charm conveyed through simple text and illustrations that go where our imaginations might.

    11. This is not your typically non fiction book Loved it.Learned non typical, interesting facts which the art then uses to create a complementary story scene. My only complaints are that there was no bibliography or a suggested reading list at the end I wanted to learn about these fascinating animals.

    12. This is a fabulous informational book, great for common core, that gives funny, disgusting, unbelievable and weird facts about 50 different animals These facts are pretty straightforward and the illustrations are pure fantasy A fabulous gift for all ages I give this one five stars Picture book format recommended for ages 5 and up.

    13. I like the large pictures, but the information that was chosen to share with the reader was often gross I guess some kids like that, but we where grossed out by caterpillars throwing their poop Yuck Other facts, I admit, were interesting.

    14. I am obsessed with Marije Tolman s illustrations I bought it for those alone, on faith, and then was happy to discover how much I enjoyed these fascinating, fun and sometimes bizarre facts about animals.
