    About "Stuart Woods"

      • Stuart Woods

Stuart Woods is the author the New York Times bestselling Stone Barrington series and Holly Barker series He is an avid private pilot, flying his own jet on book tours You may see his tour schedule and learn about the author on his website.

    1. Good seriesfun, good dialogue, nice police work, lots of action and very fan of S.Woods books paperbacks

    2. I believe Stuart Woods truly has a gift He writes books prolifically, seemingly effortlessly, that are what I call delicious dessert reading They allow one a glimpse into a fantasy world of excitement, fresh new, charming friends of only the best sort and all in life that wealth might offer But these are like feature films than books One really must suspend judgement to enjoy these books, which are essentially without substance but very smoothly crafted, just like great, delicious desserts Stua [...]

    3. Woods female lead Holly Barker overshadows Barrington We had begun to tire of Woods jet setting playboy and sometime sleuth Stone Barrington, so this relatively new series starring Orchid Beach FL Police Chief Holly Barker has to our eye brought new life to his writing In this third of the series featuring Holly, there are killings galore with a plot that moves along at a murderous pace Indeed several attempts on our heroine s own life only add to the suspense as she unravels a tale stretching b [...]

    4. Holly Barker is Chief of police Real estate location, Palmetto Gardens, is up for sale Two murders and an attempt on potential buyer, Ed Shine s, life prompts Holly to investigate Ed Shine ends up buying Palmetto Gardens which he then changes to be called Blood Orchid The suspects mob related activity just as the FBI steps in, trying to take over Holly is determined to solve this mystery on her own, especially since it s all taking place in her jurisdiction She soon uncovers secrets about people [...]

    5. What a delight to return to Orchid Beach and have Holly Barker in charge with her dog Daisy Interesting that the mob returned to her beach front and tried to do the same thing the last guys did view spoiler I didn t like Ed Shine in the beginning I suspected trouble Funny had he left Holly alone, his organization might have gotten away with their illegal plans Bad guy thought making himself a target would get Holly to look another direction, but karma came along and drew all the connections Betw [...]

    6. Another quick, fun Holly Barker mystery Again the Police Chief of Orchid Beach gets mixed up with some nasty people and doesn t get all the support she should from the local FBI agent in charge I think I liked the previous book in the series, Orchid Blues, because it featured of Holly s dad, Ham As much as I like having a woman tough cop protagonist, I feel that the author hasn t quite figured women out.

    7. Holly Barker almost a year after the death of her fiance on the day of their wedding Still in Orchid Beach, and now it appears that two unrelated assassinations in other cities and a 3rd attempt while she and her father Ham were visiting the developer may be bringing a bad element back to Orchid Beach

    8. It was a good book The plot was engaging and interesting, I knew who the culprit was right away but that didn t make the book any less interesting Perfect for commuters who ride subway, bus or whatever else

    9. The bad guy here was too obvious from the beginning I can t understand how Woods could write this such that the main character is a believable police chief and yet had no thought there could be something going on with this guy.

    10. Holly and Ham make a new friend named Ed Shine but before long they begin to suspect that all may not be as it seems.

    11. I m trying to like the Holly Barker series, but she just doesn t have the cleverness that I find in the Stone Barrington books Anyone who has ever watched a TV crime show could have figured out this plot by chapter 2, so why does Holly Barker theoretically a savvy police chief miss so many obvious clues

    12. So far, the first one in this series is the best Sometimes men writing women characters does not always ring true and that s how I felt about this one While the mystery adventure was good, it was somewhat a retread of the mystery in the first one There are two in this series and I m going to read them because I do like the heroine s guts and I really like the dog.

    13. This book though the third in the series plays off of events that occur in Orchid Beach All the characters that you grow to like continue to play a crucial role in this book as well This book is set in a fictional town but it really gives you enough depth that you feel that it could be a real town Although, for a small town it really does have some big problems

    14. This one was tough for me to rate I certainly enjoyed it and wanted to give 4s and 5s just because I really like the idea of this character actually, I generally really like the protagonist Holly Barker The book, too, is an enjoyable, fast read I think I read cover to cover in two day s worth of commutes For me, however, there just seemed to be something missing the book was a quick read but there was not too much to chew on I also was turned off a few times by Holly s adult mini tantrums over v [...]

    15. For a in depth review, please visit my blog, Chorley Chronicals, HERE I must say that I normally take to female authors, but I can certainly tell the difference between a male s writing and a female s writing, especially with this series The subject of each book has been a manly subject, per say, than many female authored mystery books Which is actually a great thing for me, because it throws something new into the mix I have quickly come to love the Holly Barker series, and am upset that I am [...]

    16. Synopsis Blood Orchid is the third adventure of Chief of Police Holly Barker This time out, Holly is trying to get her life back together after the shattering loss of her fianc Jackson With the help of her wily Doberman, Daisy, and her father, Ham as well as Ham s girlfriend Ginny who s a pilot, she throws herself back into the job with a vengeance At a local restaurant, Holly and Ham meet a gentleman new to the area, rich and dapper developer Ed Shine, who has found an evocative name for both h [...]

    17. Good side Fast read. This was the first of Stuart Woods books I ve ever read, and I was less than impressed I had sorted out the plot accurately, I might add by page 100 I actually stopped there for a few days I wasn t interested in finding out whether I was right or not At the time, I figured formulaic plot, wishy washy heroine, a ton of convenient coincidencesI don t have time for this However, I figured nothing could be exactly as it appeared, and at a friend s urging, I picked the book back u [...]

    18. Holly Barker is slipping I enjoyed the first two in this series The plot twists were just enough that I couldn t piece it all together and I really liked Holly In this offering, though, Woods has really dropped the ball About 2 pages after Shine s shot at, anyone with half a brain is suspicious of him And after about the 12th time someone questions what Barker s working on that could cause someone to bug her house and she neglects to mention the Shine shooting, even the densest reader would figu [...]

    19. 3 in the Holly Barker series.Holly Barker series Holly Barker savvy, sexy ex MP officer and her dog, Daisy , is now police chief of the small Florida east coast town of Orchid Beach Two out of three Miami bidders for a glitzy, gated residential complex with golf course are shot and killed The third bidder, orchid fancier Ed Shine, a former New York real estate mogul and new resident of Orchid Beach, narrowly escapes the same fate Shine renames his newly acquired property Blood Orchid, after an e [...]

    20. In Blood Orchid, police chief Holly Barker is at the house of retired real estate developer Ed Shine s house when a gunman shoots up the place Meanwhile, Shine purchases the former mafia owned estate Palmetto Gardens, which he is renaming Blood Orchid Holly finds her house being bugged as she undertakes this investigation The investigation takes her to Miami and has mafia ties all over it.Although I found the novel to be entertaining and an easy read, I also found it to be a little predictable I [...]
